Avis Cole Attaway is a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (MFC #34493) in private practice in Riverside, California since 1997. She founded Life Source Solutions, Inc. in 2007 to provide expanded services to the community and as a way for clients to find a therapist to match their personality and their needs.

Graduating from Loma Linda University in 1994, she earned her Masters of Science in Marriage & Family Therapy Studies. Her earliest succeses were in Marriage Counseling with couples experiencing difficulties with anger, financial stress, parenting differences and emotional distance.

Avis began working with adolescents in residential treatment, focusing on the severely emotionally disturbed.

This lead to specializing in trauma and PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder).  Working with traumatized clients, she realized the need for another form of therapy besides traditional-style talk therapy. So in 1998 she became certified in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing) - a mind-body approach to therapy.

Working with Adoptive families, Avis began to see children who were having extreme difficulty adjusting to their new families. These children had been traumatized by multiple placements and prior neglect and/or abuse.  Because of this, they were unable to respond appropriately or  attach to their new parents. This condition, known as RAD (Reactive Attachment Disorder), involves extensive family treatment, time and great commitment -especially from the parents.

Avis has been a lifelong student of psychology, philosophy and spirituality. In 1999, Avis became interested in the clinical use of Hypnosis. She studied Hypnotherapy and was certified by Dr. Eleanor Field to help clients with a variety of issues.

Her continuing interest in the mind-body-spirit connection lead to her introduction to Psych-K in 2004. This technique works with an individual's self-limiting beliefs that cause limitation or distress in their life. It involves kinesiology or muscle-testing combined with affirmations and short, simple exercises. She began using it with clients to produce remarkable results with anxiety, phobias, and depression. It also enhanced goal achievement in such areas as weight loss and making money.

In 2007, with the global phenomena of the hit dvd The SecretAvis became a student of the Law of AttractionShe studied with the featured host of the film, Bob Proctor, and became licensed as a LifeSuccess Consultant.

As a Life Coach, teaching clients how the mind works and what the exact principles are for creating the life one desires is her greatest passion and mission.

Regardless of where you are right now, it is not only possible - it is inevitable - for you to have whatever it is you are seeking ... once you learn the basic principles.

Avis is currently accepting new Therapy and Coaching clients on an Individual or Group basis (Family or Corporate).

Avis is also available for Keynotes, Seminars and Workshops. There is still space available at this time for her weekly teleconference Coaching calls - specifically designed for convenience and affordability.

My name is Dr. Guy Balice and I received my PhD  in Counseling Psychology from UCLA in 1997, and am a Licensed Psychologist (PSY #22638).  I have a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from University of California, Irvine, and a Master’s in Counseling from UCLA. My clinical experience spans a period of 17 years; in that time I have worked with adults, children, and families, including: children and families in a child guidance clinic, adults and couples in a community mental health center, adult inpatient and partial hospitalization patients and their families, foster children, and college students in a liberal arts college.

While I have worked with a variety of emotional concerns ranging from marital problems to individuals experiencing acute emotional crises, my specialties are in treating panic and anxiety disorders, child and adult depression, performance anxiety in high school and college students, family relationships, and troubled adolescents. I also have worked with foster children for 3 years, and am very familiar with the social service system and foster family agencies.

My clinical theoretical orientation is psychodynamic psychotherapy, specializing in object relations and self-psychology. What this means is that I believe that it is the client’s relationship with a caring and competent psychotherapist that brings about emotional recovery and growth. I help clients identify their needs and maximize the chance that they will meet these needs to strive and achieve their goals. I focus on the “here and now” in helping clients develop strategies to solve problems, whether these problems are internal (e.g. anxiety) or external (e.g. need for more training or education to develop a career). I also encourage clients to develop insight into how they can create strategies that they can make a part of who they are in their day-to-day lives. Some clients come into counseling, not so much because they are in an emotional crisis, but because they want to make significant and long-lasting changes in their lives; they want to change patterns of behavior that have not met their needs well in the past. I work to help these clients identify difficulties in how they cope with and solve problems and to develop new coping skills that can have life-changing effects.

In addition to my clinical experience I have taught undergraduate and graduate students in marriage and family therapy, psychology, education, and social ecology for the last 13 years. Although I have mainly taught courses in research methods and statistics, in recent years I have expanded my teaching repertoire to include courses in career counseling, psychological assessment, biological psychology, and have been recently enjoying teaching courses in psychopathology.

Overall, I enjoy working with people to help them identify, work to, and achieve their goals and to find ways to overcome the obstacles that interfere with living their lives to their fullest potential.

My clinical practice includes working with adults, couples, teens, children and families. Additionally, I have also provided counseling at transitional living shelters and schools located in Orange and Los Angeles Counties.

I am a pre-licensed member of the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (CAMFT), Orange County California Association of Marriage & Family Therapists (OCCAMFT) and a member of EMDR International Association (EMDRIA).

I look forward to working with you.

Danielle Ulian - Psychologist Assistant to Guy Balice, PhD. Psychologist Intern

My passion for helping others to re-discover their inborn strengths, talents, and gifts has been an important part of my life for many years. My enthusiasm flourished when I graduated from University of Illinois-Chicago with a bachelor’s degree in psychology. Through my personal and professional daily interactions with unique and diverse populations, the pursuit of my professional path in working with people in a therapeutic realm became crystal clear - providing guidance, support, and education to people experiencing difficulties in their world.

I graduated from DePaul University with a Master’s degree in Human Services and Counseling and have been practicing as a Licensed Professional Counselor, issued by the State of Illinois, since 2007. Throughout my academic experience I collaborated with several community non-profit agencies, specifically working with children, adolescents, teen mothers, and families experiencing developmental, behavioral, emotional, relational, and social issues and who have had a history of extreme adversity, such as poverty, trauma, abuse, and neglect.  I have worked with children, adolescents, and families living with learning disorders, behavioral issues in school and in the home, ADHD, depression, anxiety, and autism in an individual and group setting. I continued to work in this realm for 3 years, where I collaboratively joined my clients to improve their functioning in all areas of their life, including increasing empowerment and enhancing self-awareness to lead a healthier, happier life, and helping to diminish the perpetuation of unhealthy family relationships.

In 2009, I pursued my life long dream and moved to California and entered the Doctorate of Psychology (Psy.D) Program at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. In this time, I have worked in Los Angeles at a community mental health agency working with adults living with different types of depression and anxiety, phobias, relational issues, substance abuse issues, and exposure to trauma, abuse, and neglect.. I currently am a Psy.D candidate, accruing clinical hours for graduation and licensure in the State of California.

It is fundamental in my work with you to provide a safe, understanding, and respectful environment to help promote an authentic and trusting relationship. In our work together, we will explore the richness of your life experiences, relationships, and beliefs and values to understand unresolved conflicts that have developed, knowingly and unknowingly, throughout your life; unhealthy ways of understanding yourself, others and the world; and ways in which you connect with others that may be contributing to unhappiness within yourself, relationships, family, school, work, etc.. I am here to join your life journey, assisting you to embrace your internal strengths in helping you heal, finding your authentic, true self; while improving your quality of life. Therapy can be scary, as it evokes a sense of vulnerability, fearfulness, and uncertainty which is a natural response.

Please contact me if you are interested in seeing if we would be a good match for one another.
